Our Sony lens repair services

We can quickly diagnose faults that have developed with Sony lenses to get them fixed and get you up and running again as quickly as possible. Perhaps there’s an issue with the zooming action? Or the lens might not be quite focusing correctly, or maybe an issue has developed with the stabilisation system. Whatever the fault, our state-of-the-art, Sony-approved testing equipment will get to the bottom of it.

Sometimes faults with lenses aren’t outwardly obvious – even a small bump or knock to a lens can cause internal issues that prevent it from zooming or focusing correctly. We test all lenses that come into the workshop as a matter of course, and our team of Sony specialist engineers will triple-check that everything is working as it should.

Our technicians are fully qualified and certified, and have access to Sony-approved repair parts. This means we can bring your Sony lens back to perfect working order, so you can rest assured it won’t let you down in the field.

We can repair Sony lenses in warranty, or out of warranty as a chargeable repair (see below for a rough guide to pricing). Either way, you can relax in the knowledge that your equipment is in safe hands, with professionals who are experts in Sony lenses.

Sony Lens Cleaning And Servicing

As well as repair when things go wrong, we also offer Sony lens servicing and cleaning! Getting your Sony lenses regularly serviced and cleaned is the best way to reduce the amount of time needed for repair, and to prevent a problem from developing at precisely the wrong time – such as in the middle of a shoot!

Lens Cleaning Service

We offer external Sony lens cleaning for a one-off fee, and will also clean lenses as part of our general servicing or repair procedure. We only use Sony-approved cleaning products, meaning we can touch up the important rear and front elements of your Sony lenses without compromising or damaging any important coatings.

It’s also a good idea to clean your lenses yourself! This is an easy bit of regular upkeep and an extremely good habit to get into, as it will reduce the chances of images being compromised by dust or particles on the front element of a lens.

We’ve put together a blog on how to clean your lenses yourself – check it out if you want some tips on getting started with cleaning your Sony lenses. An essential step is having the right lens cleaning fluid and some specialist lens tissues – cleaning a lens with anything other than dedicated fluids and materials can be a recipe for disaster!

Focus Calibration

Focus accuracy is absolutely critical for professional photographers. Anyone using Sony cameras knows that those full-frame, high-resolution sensors mean you have to make every pixel count, and this means that even a minor focusing issue can make the difference between nailing the shot and missing it. This means that your Sony FE lens has to be at peak performance on every job!

Sony mirrorless cameras and lenses focusing directly on the imaging sensor, eliminating the need for focus fine-tuning. However the elements in Sony lenses may come out of alignment gradually with use or after an impact. Re-aligning the optics is a specialist operation carried out by our technicians with dedicated lens projection technology supplied by Sony.

If you’d like to know more about focus calibration visit our focus issues page.

Repair Process For Sony Lenses

There are two ways to get your Sony lenses to us for cleaning – either drop them off with us in person, or send them in the post.

You can drop lenses off with us in person at our workshops in London or Manchester. Simply hand your lens over at the service desk and the team will take all necessary details – including the model of the lens, and the nature of the fault. If you’re asking for a lens to be repaired under warranty, please bring along a receipt or other proof of purchase, and a warranty card if you have purchased one. Once all this is logged, the team will then issue you with a receipt. Please note that if we determine that a lens received at our Manchester workshop requires major repair, it may be sent on to London.

If you don’t live nearby or don’t have the time to drop off the lens, you can send it to us in the post! Complete our online repair form, then package your lens up in a strong box that can withstand the journey – we also recommend giving the lens at least 2 inches (5cm) of padding on every side, to prevent any further damage being caused in transit.

Once your lens safely reaches us, we will get it booked in – this will usually happen on the same day. We’ll email you a receipt confirming the kit we’ve received, the repairs that have been requested, and any observations made by the team on the condition of the lens before repair begins.

If you’ve indicated that you’re happy for work to begin without an estimate, then work will begin right away. If you have requested an estimate using our online form, then the team will test the lens to determine the nature and scope of the problem before starting work. Once we’re satisfied we know what the repair is going to entail, we’ll email you an estimated quote for the job. We won’t start work until we receive your go-ahead, so make sure you keep one eye on your email inbox!

If you’d like your lens repaired as quickly as possible but would like to keep an eye on costs, another option is to set a price limit. This is the maximum amount of money you’re willing to commit to the repair before we check in with you – if you set a limit, we’ll proceed with the repair unless we determine it’s going to cost more than the amount specified, in which case we’ll get in touch with you to confirm.

Once we’ve got your confirmation that the repair can go ahead, the team will conduct the repair, as well as cleaning and servicing your lens. We’ll get in touch with you when it’s done, and from there you can arrange a collection or delivery.

We can also supply you with a pre-paid delivery label or a courier collection for your lens if you would prefer – simply specify on our online repair form if you would like us to do this.

FAQ:

Yes we can – just make sure your lens is still in warranty, and bring along your proof of purchase or warranty card if you have purchased additional warranty.

Sony offers a 1-year warranty on its digital imaging products, and will strictly observe the cut-off, to the day. You can purchase warranty cards to extend this by 1, 2 or 3 years – sometimes these are offered as part of a lens purchase. If you have a warranty extension and need a warranty repair, make sure to provide us with the card to verify it.

Yes, all of our lens repairs are guaranteed for six months.

Yes, absolutely – see above for full postage instructions. Make sure to pack your lens well, with a couple of inches of padding on every side.

No – if you’re happy for us to go ahead without giving you an estimate, simply do not request one when filling in the online repair form.

Yes, we’re the first walk-in Sony Imaging PRO Support Centre in the UK.

We maintain an extensive library of Sony lens parts, so get in touch if there’s something specific you’re looking for and we’ll see if we can help. Bear in mind that it’s always best to get even small repair jobs done by professionals unless you’re really sure what you’re doing, and it may be better to pay for a minor repair up front, rather than necessitating a major repair if your fix attempt goes wrong!

We specialise in fast turn-around lens repair, with competitive pricing. Our lens repairs are certified by Sony, and we’ll always endeavour to get the job done as quickly as possible.

Our prices are set by the work that needs doing, so you’ll only ever need to pay for the specific issues with your lens. We pride ourselves on getting Sony lenses repaired quickly and thoroughly, for a fair price.

Due to how easy it is for dust to get into the body of Sony cameras when you change lenses or even when you use a zoom lens, we cannot guarantee our sensor cleaning.
